Junior Athletics

We provide training and competition for all ages from 9 to 16. Activities include weekly training sessions at Lynnsport in Kings Lynn, indoor sportshall competitions and cross-country running in the winter and outdoor track and field competition in the summer.

Junior Membership

Due to high demand we have an introductory process in place with our junior athletes, therefore new juniors should not just turn up on the night of a session.

If your child is interested in training and competing with Ryston Runners AC we offer a free taster session on the dates below (due to our training structure and coach availability we cannot accommodate other dates). Please email in the first instance with your child's name and date of birth (minimum is 9 years old) to book a place. Contact Jon Benstead  This email address is being protected from spambots. Ryston coaches work hard to deliver sessions to cater for all abilities and encourage our juniors to compete on behalf of the club throughout the year in cross country races and track and field matches.

Over the Winter season Ryston host a series of cross country races in Shouldham Warren – it is suggested that your child takes part in these races if they wish to gain some experience of competition and show their interest in joining the club.

Once ready to join and the above process is complete, please visit our membership portal at www.membermojo.co.uk/rystonrunners

Junior Training

Monday nights, 6:15pm til 7:15pm at the Athletics track at Lynnsport and Leisure Park, Kings Lynn. These sessions are run by qualified coaches. Children can expect an exposure to a variety of athletic disciplines; Running, Jumping & Throwing.

Additional sessions happen on an ad-hoc basis. These are communicated along with information on upcoming competitions at the Monday evening session.

Sportshall Athletics

Sportshall is the indoor brand of junior athletics for the winter months, using reversa boards for running and adapted events for all the main athletic disciplines such as standing long jump and hurdles. Other events include the speed bounce and obstacle relay. The motto is 'fun first' and this is for everyone aged from 9 to 14.

Those who have attended these events in the past will confirm how much fun they are, how active the athletes are and how much this improves your overall performance. If you would like to take part in this league please contact Lindsey Clare.

Eastern Young Athletes League

The EYAL is for boys and girls in the under 13, under 15 and under 17 age groups. With around 25 clubs taking part in 5 fixtures a year in a 'round robin' league there are finals for the top six and a plate final. More information can be found on the EYAL website.

Ryston compete in a composite team alongside West Norfolk AC, Thetford AC and Great Yarmouth AC. If you would like to take part in this league please contact Lindsey Clare.

Eastern Anglian League

A Sunday league for all athletes aged 9 up to Seniors. Athletes compete in their own age-group, with each age-group scored separately as a "mini-league". These totals are then aggregated to give an overall match result.

EAL matches currently commence at 11.15am and aim to finish at around 5.30pm. There are eight age-groups in each match. Under 11 Boys and Girls (this is for fun only and is not a scoring age-group), Under 13 Girls, Under 13 Boys, Under 15 Girls, Under 15 Boys, Under 17 Men, Senior Women and Senior Men (Under 17 Women compete with the Seniors but there are special hurdles and 300m races for them. Under 20 Women and men compete as Seniors). Each club can enter two scoring athletes into each event in an age-group (except Under 13's javelin and Discus which are limited to one per club). Non-scoring athletes are also permitted in most events, and these provide the opportunity for new athletes to get a registered performance for future team selection, or for athletes who are already in a scoring event, to do additional events.

There are 4 league matches with the top 8 in each age group progressing to the final which takes place in September each year. For more information on this league please contact Lindsey Clare

Quad Kids

Is a 5 match series for Under 11 & 13 Athletes. All athletes take part as individuals, and will take part in a Sprint, Distance, Long Jump & Vortex Throw over a Sunday morning.
